The Florida Health Information Exchange (Florida HIE) enables the secure exchange of health information. It allows authorized medical providers to quickly and efficiently review their patients’ medical records to facilitate diagnosis and treatment. The Agency has contracted with Harris Corporation to build and operate the HIE infrastructure.
The system provides the capability to electronically move clinical information between health care information systems with the goal of facilitating access to and retrieval of clinical data to provide timelier, safer, efficient, effective, patient-centered care.
The Florida HIE will offer two separate services that allow for the secure exchange of patient health information in electronic format.
Direct Secure Messaging is a secure email service that allows participants to push encrypted health information to other participants;
Patient Look-up and Delivery services allow clinicians to query for and retrieve individual patient records from participating sources as needed for patient care.

The Florida HIE metrics dashboard website at http://floridahie-eval.fiu.edu, provides information on outreach plans including outreach to physicians, hospitals, laboratories, pharmacies and other providers; trends in adoption and utilization of the HIE services by geographic location; the status of outreach milestones; and state and national statistics on health information exchange.
