Alaska Federal Health Care Access Network (AFHCAN) Financial Summary
AFHCAN was designed as a four-year (1999-2002) project with an estimated $30,000,000 budget. Through the fourth year of the project, AFHCAN has received $29,367,002 plus $643,741 interest payments. Through FY 2002, the AFHCAN Project received funds from Indian Health Service ($16,000,000), Department of Defense ($4,733,000), Veterans Administration ($1,750,000), and a grant from the Department of Health and Human Services ($6,852,000). The AFHCAN Project has met its objectives within the four-year timeline while remaining under budget. Project-to-date, the AFHCAN Project Office has expended 26% of its funds on operations to include software development, 23% on site funds, 25% on equipment, 2% on network, research and development, and ATAC. AFHCAN has committed over $2,000,000 for the first year of transition planning for FY03.”

The federal government has earmarked nearly $500,000 in grant funding for the new for-profit Bayonne Medical Center to help install an electronic medical record system… Yesterday, hospital employees greeted Rep. Albio Sires, D-West New York, with a large banner expressing thanks for his aid in reserving the money from the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration. BMC President/CEO Daniel Kane called Sires a "staunch supporter" of the hospital. BMC Interim Chief Information Officer David Parry said the $487,000 will help pay for a combination of hardware and software to assemble, in part, an online repository of patient images culled from X-rays, CATs, and MRIs … Parry estimated that it would cost between $3 million and $4 million to complete the system…
